Winter Skincare Routine for Sensitive Skin

Winter Skincare Routine for Sensitive Skin

Posted by Hina Limbada on

After hot, humid summers and multi-weather autumns come cold, dry winters, which can feel the absolute worst for your skin. Once those temperatures drop to chilly levels, the dryness of the air can strip the natural moisture of your skin away, causing it to show signs of dryness, flakiness and irritation, especially if you have sensitive skin.

These symptoms can feel sudden and extreme to some, just like the weather, but don’t go filling your cart with every remedy available.

Here’s a minimalistic yet effective winter routine for keeping sensitive skin healthy and aglow in winter - because simple routines are trigger-free routines.

And remember, what goes on your face also goes on your neck!

(Gentle) Cleansing

Start your morning routine by cleansing your skin without stripping your skin’s natural oils. You don’t have to scrub hard or use abrasive products; the gentler, the better when removing any oil, dirt or leftover makeup.

Cleansing in the evening is also recommended to remove makeup plus any pollutants you may have been exposed to throughout the day. No matter how oily or unclean you feel your skin might be, keep cleansing gently!

When rinsing, avoid hot water, which will strip your natural oils. Lukewarm water is key!

Then, when drying your face with a towel, pat, don’t rub.

Recommended Product: Preserve Glow Facial Cleanser removes makeup, dirt and pollutants while absorbing oils and tightening your pores without drying your sensitive skin. Our cleanser is made with oat amino acids to help balance your skin's PH. So no need for toners!

Sun Protection

“But Heirloom Beauty, we don’t really see the sun in winter; it’s always dark and cloudy!”

Clouds don’t block UVA and UVB rays. Approximately 90% of these rays can get through to you and your skin barrier from behind the clouds; meaning rays damage your skin even if you can’t see or feel the sun.

Keep up sun protection for sensitive skin by continuing to wear an SPF of 30 or higher each day, sunshine or otherwise, whether you’re indoors or outdoors. You’ll want to apply sunscreen after your cleanser, before utilizing the rest of your skincare routine.

Balance & Target Skin Concerns

Once you’ve cleansed your skin, ridding it of excess impurities (our cleanser is made with oat amino acids, so there is no need for toners to balance your PH.  Our cleanser does that for you! Followed by a potent serum that targets signs of aging.

For best results, and serums to your sensitive skin gradually, rotating the use of the products on alternating nights. This allows your skin to best absorb active ingredients while having the chance to rest, reducing the risk of irritation and other visible triggers.

It’s important to remember your skin works in cellular cycles of turnover, renewal and repair, so don’t give up using a new product if you don’t see results right away - unless the product is causing an adverse or allergic reaction.

Rotating products in a cycle aligns with your skin’s natural cycling rhythm, optimizing its health over time while still regarding your level of sensitivity.

Recommended Product: Reverse Antioxidant Glow Serum boosts your production of collagen, improving your skin’s barrier, firmness, hydration, protection and glow. This helps target common skin concerns such as hyperpigmentation, dullness, acne scars and signs of aging at the root.

Moisturize

Finish your skincare routine by applying rich, hydrating moisturizer. Sensitive skin-friendly ingredients for hydration can include hyaluronic acids, a natural substance our body produces that helps hang onto moisture, and ceramides, which are fatty molecules already found on your skin barrier for protection and replenishment.

Recommended Product: Preserve Glow Cream hydrates, protects, and brings back the glow - a skin barrier favourite with allantoin, vitamin B5, and glycerine, which are available with or without fragrance. Sensitive skin should opt for fragrance-free!
